Aurora EDI Alliance Press ~ Volume 2 Issue 1 ~ January 21, 2013

Welcome Note
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2013. The Aurora EDI Alliance Press is a quarterly newsletter dedicated to current issues, events, education and newsworthy items surrounding both EDI technology and the Aurora EDI Alliance. Our newsletter is now going out to 1,400 different companies.  We would welcome any feedback from our readers on how to improve it.  The Aurora EDI Alliance is a tightly knit group of U.S. companies and specializing in the implementation and maintenance of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in a variety of industries.  We are recognized experts in EDI, and can provide consulting, system analysis, design, development and training services as well as software implementation services.

The Year in Review
Our first edition of this newsletter was published about a year ago and what a year it was!  Just to recap some of the events and April, Faith Lamprey and Shandra Locken of Aurora Technologies, Warren Spiller of JRX Services, David McAlister of McAna EDI and Roger Curtis of Sitcur, traveled to Atlanta for the Liaison Converge Conference to learn about Liaison's future plans.  McAna EDI proudly added the Radius ERP package to their growing list of supported integration points.  And in May, Faith Lamprey, Aurora's President, was inducted as a lifetime member of the Rhode Island College Alpha Chapter of Epsilon Pi Upsilon which is the International Computer Science Honor Society.  August found Faith and Shandra in Boston at the Hubspot Marketing Conference where they saw incredible speakers and Cyndi Lauper to boot!  Target Canada (which we recently blogged on) was sucessfully tested with McAna EDI and McAna also implemented EDI version 6020 with Chrysler Corporation for one of their clients.  In October, Aurora Technologies welcomed 25 new customers that they acquired from DataTrans Inc. and it has been a very smooth transition due largely to the incredible team at Aurora.  The Aurora EDI Alliance looks forward to new adventures and opportunities in 2013!

Blog Highlight:  Why You Should Upgrade Your EDI Software
Blog article describing why it's important to take advantage of EDI software upgrades.

Having just recently been through the process of selling software upgrades, we have presented every conceivable reason why this a good idea and have heard every conceivable objection. I myself am guilty of not upgrading! Every time I touch my iPhone I get a message that I haven't upgraded to the iOS 6. That being said, I thought it might be helpful to others who are either selling upgrades or considering an upgrade, to offer up a few good reasons more

Delta/ECS Upgrades Under Way
6.0 and ECS 7.0 were unveiled on November 30th.  We are pleased to announce that 20 of the Alliance's customers have purchased these newly enhanced versions of one of the best data integration packages available on the market today.  One of the most notable changes is that this is the last upgrade Liaison is charging for.  In the future, all upgrades are included in the annual maintenance.

Technical Terminology Time
Digital Certificate - A digital certificate is used for security, much like an ID.  It allows the company you are communicating with to verify that you are who you say you are and allows you access to their system.  Digital certificates are issued by a third party called a CA (certificate authority) and they contain information about you such as your name, a serial number, an expiration date and the digital signature of the CA.  Most people in the EDI world associate digital certificates with AS2.  And most people don't give them too much thought, until they get an email from Walmart that their Certificate has expired.
